Grade 1 Objects and Materials by Claudia

This session will be about the inquiry process at the Gr. 1 level in relationship to this science outcome. It is very much a hands-on experience where the children sort, categorize and describe actual materials and objects. These activities involve both an indoor and outdoor scavenger hunt along with learning and reinforcement using the SmartBoard.

Here are the handouts and other documents and files from the presentation:

Grade 3 - Ancient Egypt by Sherry F.

Examples will be shown of how notes are made at this grade level. Use of the Smartboard templates for review and/or assessment will be demonstrated. Learn how to walk like an Egyptian!

Below you can find all the Smart Board files related to Sherry's presentation. Note that you can downlaod and save these files, but you will not be able to open them unless you have Smart Board Notebook software.

Hannah Taylor and The Ladybug Education Foundation Curriculum: Make Change by Carmela

If you are looking to support teachers in a unit of study or to integrate different social responsibility themes into various lessons consider the following:
· A review of the Ladybug resource packages for Grade 6, 7, and 8
· Activities that teachers have created and incorporated into lessons this year
· Student activities and experiences

Batteries and the Environment by Sherry G.

Last spring our natural environment IBL (grade 2 S.S.) took an interesting twist after a guest speaker sparked an interest in batteries. Changes were made to our plans and our IBL stretched into June. I'll share links, activities, projects and the PhotoStory we created and will tell about our journey which included a presentation to the Board, a pilot project this year for recycling batteries and most recently, an $1100 sustainable development grant to carry our project through next year.

Strategies and Ideas for Teaching Grade 1 & 2 IBL by Jennifer

This session will explore teaching ideas and strategies for grade one and two students with a focus on the science curriculums. Teaching materials will include both hands on and technology integration which satisfy the literacy with ICT reporting descriptors.

Canada Through the Ages by Liz

Newsletters through Microsoft Publisher - a fun and easy way to combine Inquiry with ITC. I will have samples on hand of the various newsletters that were done in grades 4-6 (WWI, Louis Riel, Explorers & Canada through the decades) As well, I will bring examples of self assessment, setting criteria and rubrics.
